This policy explains what personal information Kaló Haus collects, why we collect it, who we give it to, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read rather than to be waded through. If anything in it is unclear, email us and we will explain it properly.
i / Who we are
Kaló Haus is a boutique buyers agency operating across inner city Brisbane and the bayside. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Kaló Haus and the entity that operates it.
From 1 July 2026, buyers agents are reporting entities under the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006. That means we are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles in connection with those obligations, regardless of our size. We have chosen to apply this policy to everything we do, not only the parts the law reaches.
ii / What we collect
Depending on how far we get together, that may include:
- Your name, email address and phone number
- Your brief: suburbs, budget, timing, what the home needs to do, and who else is involved in the decision
- Your funding position, and your broker or lender's details if you want us to speak to them
- Identity documents and related information we are required to collect and verify for customer due diligence, such as a driver's licence or passport, date of birth and residential address
- Records of properties we inspected, offers made, and our correspondence with you
Identity documents and government identifiers are sensitive. We only collect them where the AML/CTF rules require it, and we do not use them for anything else.
iii / How we collect it
Usually directly from you: when you book a call, when you complete the client brief, by email or message, or in conversation. Sometimes we collect information about a property or a transaction from a selling agent, a solicitor, or a public register, and your name may appear in it.
We also hold contact details for people who are not our clients, such as brokers, solicitors, accountants, building and pest inspectors and selling agents. We collect that information so we can do our job on your purchase, and we handle it under this policy too.
iv / If you would rather not give it to us
You can deal with us anonymously or under a pseudonym at the very early stages, for a general enquiry or a first conversation. Beyond that it becomes impractical. If you choose not to give us the information above, we may not be able to search properly on your behalf, we may not be able to act for you at all, and where identity verification is required by the AML/CTF Act we are not permitted to proceed without it.
v / Why we collect it
To understand what you are looking for, to search and shortlist properly, to negotiate and complete a purchase for you, to meet our customer due diligence and record keeping obligations under the AML/CTF Act, and to keep in touch with you about your search. We do not sell personal information to anyone, ever.
vi / Who we give it to
Only the people needed to get your purchase done, and only as much as they need:
- Your solicitor or conveyancer
- Building and pest inspectors, and any specialist inspector you ask us to arrange
- Your broker or lender, where you have asked us to liaise with them
- The selling agent, to the extent required to make and progress an offer
- AUSTRAC, where we are legally required to report
- Our own service providers, such as our booking, client and file storage systems
vii / Keeping in touch, and how to stop it
If you have been in contact with us or become a client, we may email you occasionally with market notes, properties we think are worth your attention, or news about the agency. We keep it infrequent and we write it ourselves.
Every email has an unsubscribe link, and one click is enough. You can also reply to any message, or email hello@kalohaus.com, and we will take you off the list straight away. We do not need a reason. Unsubscribing has no effect on the work we do for you, and we will still send the messages that relate directly to your own purchase.
We do not share or sell your details to anyone else for their marketing.
viii / Where it is stored, including overseas
We use third party services to run the business. Our booking system and our client portal are hosted by providers who may store or process data on servers outside Australia, including in the United States. By using those tools, we may disclose your personal information overseas. We take reasonable steps to use reputable providers, but overseas recipients are not always subject to Australian privacy law.
We do not run advertising trackers on this website, and we do not build profiles on visitors.
ix / How long we keep it
Customer due diligence records and transaction records are kept for seven years, as the AML/CTF Act requires. Other information is kept only as long as it is useful to you or to us, and then destroyed or de-identified.
x / Keeping it safe
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, including access controls on our systems and limiting who inside the business can see what. If a data breach occurs that is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
xi / Seeing it and correcting it
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Email hello@kalohaus.com and we will respond within a reasonable time, normally 30 days. There is no charge. In rare cases we may not be able to give you access, for example where the law requires us not to, and if that happens we will tell you why in writing.
xii / How to reach us
For anything in this policy, including access requests, corrections and complaints, the fastest route is email.

xiii / If you are not happy
Tell us first. Email us with what happened and we will look into it and come back to you in writing, normally within 14 days. We may need to verify who you are before we can act on a request.
If you are not satisfied with how we handle it, you can take the matter to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner:
